PURE DHAMMA DISCOURSE

Robes & Bowl

At one time there were two disciples of a master who were working with him for their illumination.
The master was always pushing them and insisting that they work harder, but they accepted the training without complaint. They were real disciples, and because they had the right attitude in their training one of them became enlightened.

The master recognised the enlightenment immediately, and as he was becoming quite old, he was happy to have someone to whom he could pass on the responsibility for the Dhamma transmission, so he called the disciple to his room. He said that because the disciple was now enlightened he wanted to give him the special robes and bowl that had belonged to the Buddha.
